About Us

The Don Bosco Farm High School and Dominic Savio Primary School is a co-educational boarding school, affiliated to the Goa State Board and offers English medium education from class I to X along with pre-schooling. In addition to introducing quality education in rural Southern Goa, DBFHS is an excellent choice for the students to enjoy and grow among nature and develop environmental awareness. The school campus houses the Primary and High School, a sports field, an extensive auditorium, a well-equipped library and a computer lab among other amenities required to develop the young minds.
The modest but promising beginning of the school dates back to 1977 with the initiation of the Savio Boys’ Home, an elementary boarding school for the underprivileged orphan boys and the children of the farm workers. The Dominic Savio Primary School was officially recognised by the Directorate of Education in 1981 followed by the DBFHS in 1986 with retrospective effect. The year 1987-88 saw the first batch of SSC students pass out from the school.

Keeping in line with the Salesian philosophy – a unique charism given to the Salesians by their founder and which has also been imbibed by the staff, learning at DBFHS extends beyond the classroom by encouraging the students to excel in sports and co-curricular activities. The students can also choose to be a part of any of the eight clubs offered at DBFHS.

DBFHS over the years has carved a niche for itself on the Goan education front and within the Salesian province in Goa as it nurtures the young in their formative years and journey of self-discovery, thus preparing them for the complexities of the world and at the same time to be agents of transformation for a better future.

Don Bosco Farm High school and Dominic Savio Primary school is run by ‘The Salesians of Don Bosco’ - a religious order of the Catholic Church founded by St. John Bosco in the year 1859. John Bosco was a saint who dedicated his entire life taking care of the less privileged and the marginalised sections of the society.

The Salesian society, today, has over 32,000 members working in 131 countries through a global network of educational and social service organisations which include fifteen universities, hundreds of institutions of higher education as well as thousands of schools and social development centres. It caters to millions of young people the world over.

The method used is called the ‘Preventive System’ which is based on Reason, Faith in God and Loving Kindness, a unique way of educating the young.
The core of this system is to impart a holistic education for a 360° development in the Bosco Way.

The Beginning

The history of Don Bosco Sulcorna can be traced back to the year 1948 when Mr. Humberto Mascarenhas from Margao donated land to Msgr. Vincent Scuderi who represented the Salesian society in Goa. The gift deed was dated September 8, 1948, a red-letter day in the Salesian calendar. Fr. Giuseppe Moja from Panjim began to visit the place much later in 1962 and started cultivation in a small way after clearing sections of the forest.

In 1966, Br. Ludwig Zabret arrived with help in the form of a group of workers from the south. This led to major development and growth in the field of agriculture, thus imprinting Don Bosco, Sulcorna as a farming community. In 1973, the house of Sulcorna was canonically erected and Fr. Moja was appointed as the first Rector.

When Fr. Olivio Miranda was appointed Rector in 1977, he took up the responsibility of establishing the Savio Boys’ Home, a boarding-cum-elementary school for poor orphan boys and children of the farm. This is how the story of the school began, with Fr. Cyril Francis being appointed as the first Principal. On October 20, 1986, the full-fledged school building was blessed by Fr. Aurelius Maschio in the presence of pioneers and others, and inaugurated by Dr. Gopal Singh, the Lt. Governor of Goa who also initiated the 25th year of the Salesian works in the small and picturesque village of Sulcorna. The Salesians of Don Bosco have, over a period of time contributed a great deal to improve the way of life in Sulcorna through various developmental activities and numerous other initiatives.

Today, Don Bosco Sulcorna houses an English medium school, a boarding for both boys and girls (run by the Salesian Sisters FMA), a College of Agriculture and a farm.
